To visit Tropical North Queensland during the Wet Season is to experience it at its most exhilarating.
The air is alive with energy that transforms into the exciting and electrifying light shows of evening thunderstorms.
While there can certainly be heavy downpours and even some flooding this is the time when the waterfalls, such as the Barron Falls and Wallaman Falls, are at their strongest. They are a spectacular sight and reverberate with sound, as tonnes of water thunders down, filling the rivers and regenerating our tropical rainforests.
That’s why this time of year is also known as the Green Season. It really is the best opportunity to fully experience Tropical North Queensland’s World Heritage rainforests at their most lush and alive.
Of course this is not the time of year for an extended camping trip and there can be some road closures at times due to flooding. But there is still plenty of fun to be had in Tropical North Queensland at this time of year as long as visitors plan around the weather.
White water rafting is at its most thrilling with a number of operators offering tours for everyone from the beginner to the most adventurous.
Even when it rains it is still warm so getting wet here isn’t the worry it is in other places where rain is associated with cold weather. Whether you want to enjoy undercover delicious alfresco dining tropical style or just enjoy a gin and tonic on the verandah as you listen to the steady rhythm of the tropical rain on the roof, experiencing Tropical North Queensland’s Wet Season is a great way to change your latitude!
