If you ask a local, they’ll tell you this is the most beautiful region in Australia, so it deserves Australia’s most beautiful name. The name has evolved to describe the place where green merges into blue; this is the only place on Earth where two World Heritage-listed entities exist side by side – Australia’s Tropical Rainforests and The Great Barrier Reef. Add to the mix Australia’s premier resort town – Port Douglas – and the oldest surviving rainforest on earth – The Daintree – and you have the most desirable holiday destination in the country. Visitors come here to refresh, restore and revitalise their lives in the aquamarine reef waters of the Coral Sea, the crystal creeks of Mossman Gorge, the golden sands of Four Mile Beach and the pleasure spas of the Daintree’s eco-resorts and Port Douglas resorts. |

As you’ll hear many times, the drive from Cairns to Port Douglas is a very scenic one. Take your time – take a picnic lunch. This drive is everything you’ve been promised and more.
Highlights include the Rex Lookout, wildlife parks, Oak Beach, and Mowbray Valley.
Port Douglas sits on an isthmus beside the sparkling waters of Dickinson Inlet and the rolling waves of the Coral Sea. Overlooking ‘Port’, as everyone calls it, is Flagstaff Hill, which is the best place to capture the striking views of the town and its superb Four Mile Beach.
Port Douglas was a quiet seaside town frequented by fisherman and locals from Cairns. Today, it’s an international mecca attracting heads of state, film stars and a host of holidaymakers from around Australia and around the globe.
The Port Douglas & Daintree region caters equally well for all styles of visitors – backpackers love the casual friendliness, the wealth of cheap and cheerful accommodation and budget priced reef tours, families have a host of resorts, cabins, caravan parks and motels designed to meet their needs, couples and singles can enjoy everything from the privacy of renting a luxury beachfront home to the intimacy of secluded B&Bs, hideaway retreats and 5 star luxury lodges and resorts.
