The Mission Beach region is set amongst the southern World Heritage listed Wet Tropics rainforests and surrounded by sugar cane farms, tropical fruit plantations, national parks and kilometres of secluded sun-kissed beaches.
The beachside resort of Mission Beach provides a casual base from which to explore the surrounding rainforest; beaches and reef while off the coast are the resort islands of Dunk and Bedarra. The southern Wet Tropics World Heritage rainforests are home to the endangered Cassowary, a magnificent flightless rainforest bird that is the area’s natural icon. There are 12 national parks are laced together by a network of walking tracks including a rainforest canopy walk to Crawford’s Lookout, Wooroonooran National Park, home of Mt Bartle Frere, Queensland’s highest peak, and the Misty Mountains Trails a series of 150 kilometres walking and hiking tracks that access rainforest creeks and waterfalls and offer fresh water swimming with excellent picnic facilities.
Popular attractions in the region include the award-winning Paronella Park, a lost castle romantically inspired by spectacular waterfalls and enchanting rainforest, The Frankland Islands, Port Hinchinbrook Resort and Hinchinbrook Island, Australia’s largest national park island and the townships of Tully, Babinda, Cardwell and Innisfail.
