The Daintree Rainforest in Australia's Wet Tropics contains 12 of the world's 19 families of primitive flowering plants. Its Gondwana origins have been established through 135 million years of continuous growth . It is now acknowledged as the oldest rainforest on earth. The evidence can be seen at Cooper Creek Wilderness situated directly below the epicentre, Thornton Peak. Guided interpreted rainforest walks and packages show case the extraordinary grandeur and beauty, the exceptional biodiversity and the extremely ancient stock of plants and animals. It is the only world heritage nature refuge where you can explore magnificent pristine fan palm forests in small exclusive groups with a local expert. Walks are on natural walking trails, traversing outstanding old-growth forest that cannot be seen elsewhere. Guides are inhabitants who love sharing their expertise and enthusiasm. Tours range from two hour guided day or night tours, to the Cooper Creek Wilderness Experience that includes the walk, a one hour mangrove cruise in search of elusive crocodiles and a delicious lunch beside the Cooper Creek or by combining this tour with an evening meal and a nocturnal walk. Children Catered For?

Yes. Special rates apply for day walks and packages for children four years to 13 years. Infants zero to three years are no charge. There are no special rates for the night walk and children under eight are generally not accepted. Walks are usually two hours in duration and fairly easy walking; however parents must ensure that their children remain on the path ad that they do not interrupt during discussions. Children are given encouragement to participate and are valued as keen spotters.

Disabled Access:

Yes. Cooper Creek Wilderness is natural rainforest. There are no modifications to accommodate physical disability that requires wheelchair access. National parks provide boardwalks with full access. A reasonable level of fitness is required; however walks are leisurely with emphasis on interpretation and appreciation. Access may be unsuitable for persons with limited mobility; wildlife behaviour and fauna sightings are unpredictable. Participants need to accept the risks and uncertainties associated with a genuine wilderness experience.
